The Schools Travel Forum (STF) is a group of leading school tour operators who promote good practice and safety in school travel.

Sporting Destinations is a Full Assured Member of the School Travel Forum. All Full Members of the STF adhere to a rigorous Code of Practice and Safety Management Standards which meet the requirements of DfES guidelines and are externally verified each year by suitably qualified independent Health and Safety professionals. During the course of developing the STF Code of Practice, and in addition to liaising with the DCSF, advice has been sought from all leading educational Unions and Associations. The STF initiative has the support of the ASCL, NAHT, ATL, NUT and Voice- The union for educational professionals and the NASWUT advises members wishing to organise school trips to use companies that have this type of system.

Details of the School Travel Forum Code of Practice are available from steve@sportingdestinations.co.uk - 0845 337 9180

Alternatively, visit the School Travel Forum website: www.schooltravelforum.com

*Whilst these guidelines only technically cover state schools in England and Scotland, the advice they contain and the information regarding the School Travel Forum Safety Management Standard will undoubtedly be of interest to any school in the United Kingdom which undertakes educational visits, in the interests of establishing best practice.

Latest updates to help you plan your tour… More

Our familiarisation (Fam Trips) visits are always very popular, a brilliant way to check out the destination and facilities before your group travel, offering you complete peace of mind. Not only will you view first hand your destination and the standard / type of fixtures you will encounter but you will also learn about the exceptional service of Sporting Destinations and our representatives that will be looking after you in your country of choice…. More

Sporting Destinations regret that it may not always be possible to arrange host families for those groups that request this type of accommodation as this depends on the host school concerned. We trust you will appreciate that the tour price will, therefore, be increased to include alternative accommodation but we shall endeavour to keep this increase to a minimum. If any school is interested in this type of accommodation, we ask that they advise us of any health and safety requirements / risk assessments prior to booking so that we can discuss these issues with the host school concerned.

We must also draw your attention to that fact that, where billeting with host families is arranged, it is the responsibility of the tour staff to supervise and organise activities should any host family be unable to look after a student at any time during the tour. We must stress that this supervision is not the responsibility of the host family, host school or Sporting Destinations Ltd.

Some Tips to help you organise Fund Raising Events … More

We offer a one-stop shop for your entire group's touring needs.

This means that rather than having to go to lots of different suppliers, we will organise flights, ferry crossings, coach transfers, accommodation bookings, sports fixture arrangements, excursions and other daily activities - thus saving you time, money and stress!

This guide has been designed with the help of Bernie Preece (St John Fisher Catholic High School, Dewsbury) and our own team's experience of organising overseas Sports Tours. Most of the answers to your questions can be found on our web site or by phoning our dedicated staff on 0845 337 9180

Please feel free to contact us to add your own experiences for other group leaders to share.
